Slippery Slope
Interactive Art
A scene of Coal Harbour as viewed from the Vancouver Convention Center in Canada consists of mountainous ranges in the background, and a Chevron gas station in the middle of the harbour. Chevron imports their oil and gases from across the world from places such as Kazakhstan, Argentina, and Australia, to be used in places like the unceded Canadian territory. Vancouver is a place where many cultures and contexts are overlaid both throughout history and in modern times.
The artwork is made up of layers of acrylic paint and thermochromic pigment mixed with mediums which creates a color changing effect when touched by the viewer. The act of touching the painting reflects tensions of enjoying the land at the expense of modifying it, becoming a slippery slope.
